WHAT DOES the mma INVOLVED?
STRIKING & KICKING
We develop fast and powerful striking techniques through pad drills, partner work and sparring. We take self defence techniques from Thai, Filipino, Chinese and Western boxing as well as many different knees and kicks from these and other Martial arts.
TRAPPING
Our MMA defence classes cover trapping to shift our opponents body and offset it through the manipulation of limbs. This is an integral part of our training using our trapping drills from JKD, Wing Chun, Kali and Street self defence methodologies.
TAKEDOWNS
In mixed martial arts (MMA), takedowns are crucial for controlling the fight and potentially ending it. These techniques involve bringing an opponent to the ground, where the fighter can gain a dominant position, execute submissions or land strikes. Takedowns are often set up with striking or other forms of misdirection to create an opening.
GRAPPLING
Whilst we try and avoid getting close enough to be grabbed, unfortunately grappling plays a major part in many MMA or violent confrontations. Understanding the clinch drills, using Filipino and Street self defence methodologies mean that when it happens we have other solutions.
GROUND & POUND
The ground is not your friend, so understanding how to get up from it. It is vital knowledge and training the elements of Shooto, wrestling and Street self defence methodologies which are used to help avoid this awful place in a MMA or fight.
SPARRING
Sparring is developed in a progressive way, starting with light contact for beginners and building as students get more experienced to semi and full contact if people wish. We make sure that people leave their egos at the door when they train as everyone is there to have fun and develop training safely.
